GENEVA, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- American Mikaela Shiffrin became the women's skier with the most World Cup victories after she won a giant slalom race in Kronplatz, Italy, on Tuesday.

Shiffrin, 27, broke the world record of 82 wins set by her compatriot Lindsey Vonn, with her 83rd FIS World Cup win in a dominant style.

Switzerland's Lara Gut-Behrami was 0.45 seconds behind the winner and Italy's Federica Brignone finished third.

Shiffrin had an almost perfect first run to lead by 0.13 seconds over Gut-Behrami, and held on to stand on the highest podium with a faster second run.

The world record of most World Cup victories for any skier was set by legendary Swede Ingemar Stenmark, and Shiffrin is only three victories away to the 86 record.
