CABARROGUIS, Quirino, June 4 (PIA)-The provincial government yesterday announced the winners of the poetry writing competition, an activity under the Grow During the New Normal program aimed at unleashing the thoughts of the Quirinians on the "new normal" amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Of the 226 entries from aspiring poets, three winners for first, second and third prize, the People's Choice and a poem written by an Overseas Filipino Worker were chosen and these were read in the virtual birthday celebration of Cong. Junie Cua.
These are: "The Woman and the Mask" by Victorina Joy Dulnuan-first prize; "Locust of Tranquility" by Rachelle Viola Romualdo-second prize; "Karit ka ti Agdama a Panawen" by Mario dela Cruz-third prize; "Naghihikahos si Juan" by Melvin John Quintero-People's Choice.
The winners received P5,000.00, P3,000.00 and P2,000.00 respectively.
The winning pieces were chosen based on the following criteria: Popularity- 50%; Creativity- 30%; Coherence of Form & Structure-10% and Clarity of Imagery-10%.
The board of judges include Roman g. Pagaduan, education program supervisor of DepEd Regional office 2, Narciso R. Cardenas, Teacher III of Cabarroguis National School of Arts and Trades and Regie Domingo, Teacher III of Victoria High School in Aglipay.
Based on the facebook page of the province, the Grow During the New Normal program was conceptualized to encourage the Quirinians, particularly the youth to undertake activities that will help in their personal development in all facets of their life: intellectual, spiritual, social and family bonding, physical health as well as in their economic or financial facet, during the quarantine period.
